What is Smart Search?
Smart Search is a new way to find deals by describing what you are looking for in your own words instead of relying only on exact keywords.
This feature is currently in testing, and limited users have access.
You can type things like:
cheap wireless headphones for running
gift ideas for a 6 year old
something to clean sofa stains
lego sets under £30
Smart Search looks at the meaning behind your words, not just exact matches.
How is Smart Search different from Classic Search?
Classic Search focuses on matching the exact words you type.
Smart Search tries to understand your intent, related terms, and context so discovery is easier when you are not sure exactly what to search for.
How do I turn Smart Search on?
If you are part of the beta test, you will see a toggle next to the search bar.
When the toggle is off you are using Classic Search. When the toggle is on you are using Smart Search.
You can switch between them at any time and your choice will be remembered until you change it again.
Why am I seeing Smart Search?
We are testing Smart Search with a limited group of users to learn how well it works before rolling it out more widely.
If you are included, you may see an introduction card, a How it works screen, and a new Smart Search landing page with suggestions.
Do I have to use Smart Search?
No. It is completely optional.
You can always turn it off using the toggle, switch back from the results page, or continue using Classic Search.
What should I use Smart Search for?
Smart Search is especially useful when you are browsing for ideas, buying a gift, comparing options, or starting with a general idea.
If you already know the exact deal or merchant you want, Classic Search may still be faster.
Can I still type short searches?
Yes! Smart Search works with single words, short phrases, and full sentences.
Why am I seeing suggestions or chips?
Suggestion chips are there to inspire ideas, refine your search, and help you explore related topics quickly. Selecting one runs a new search.
Why did my results change compared to Classic Search?
Smart Search may surface a different mix of results because it looks at meaning rather than exact wording. You can always switch back to Classic Search if you prefer those results.
Why am I seeing fewer results at first?
Some users will initially see a smaller number of results before clicking Show more. This helps us test layouts and you can always load more if available.
Why do I not see ads?
During the beta phase, Smart Search focuses on improving discovery and relevance of results. Ads are not included within this testing phase.
What is the Create Alert option?
The Create Alert button lets you receive notifications when new deals appear that match your search. Will Smart Search replace Classic Search? Not right now. Both modes are available so you can choose what works best for you.
Is Smart Search still being improved?
Yes. We are actively testing result quality, layouts, switching behaviour, and suggestions so you may see changes over time.
What should I do if something does not look right?
If you experience errors or confusing results, please use the feedback tools on the results page to let us know! Feedback from beta users is very valuable.
(As the test progresses, we'll be inviting select users to participate in 1:1 interviews to gather your feedback).
Will Smart Search affect my privacy?
Smart Search uses your queries to find relevant deals in line with our privacy policy.
Can I turn Smart Search off permanently?
You can switch it off using the toggle and we will remember your preference until you change it again.
When should I stick with Classic Search?
Classic Search may be better when you know the exact merchant or deal name, use advanced operators, or want literal matches.
How can I help improve Smart Search?
Using the feature, switching when needed, and exploring suggestions all help us improve it!
